MBA 590A: Global Business Management Experience (graduate)

Note: Printed information is from Winter 2019. Updated information will be available Fall 2019 term

The undergraduate Global Business Experience course is a short-term study abroad that immerses students in the business and culture of Costa Rica. During this course, students will meet with faculty and business representatives from a variety of Costa Rican sectors to learn first-hand about business differences and similarities across cultures. This 3-credit study abroad course counts as a marketing or management upper division elective for undergraduate students, or as your course for an international business major, minor or concentration.

This graduate level travel-based course focuses on the challenges and opportunities associated with organizational management and business strategy in the international business environment as well the geography, culture, and economy of Costa Rica. Students first research an overview of the process and effects of internationalization in the current business environment in Costa Rica, then travel to Costa Rica to meet with government and non-government agencies, local businesses, and international businesses, as well as experience aspects of local culture. Through the case studies, students integrate knowledge gained from other business courses to understand the conceptual framework of global business issues and apply knowledge and analytical tools to business situations in Central American country.
